"Skim" is a debut novel by author Steve Byrne and was inspired by his great-grandfather Maxime Mousseau, the Ontario Liquor Control Inspector in the Windsor area during Prohibition.

100 years before Amazon, Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes, "Moose" Ducharme concocts a way to get booze delivered right to his customers homes. His involvement with illegal liquor suppliers, however, causes dangerous complications he never imagined.

Maurice "Moose" Ducharme, war hero and former football star from Ford City, Ontario, struggles to provide for his family upon his return from the Great War in 1919. Absent any other prospects, he resigns himself to the role of a local milk deliveryman.
With Prohibition in full swing, Moose concocts a clever scheme to use his milk delivery route to illegally distribute Canadian Club Whisky, distilled only blocks away in Walkerville.
The lucrative venture he dubs "Skim" relies in the special skills of his wartime friend, Scotty, the involvement of his son, Jackie, as well as a tenuous partnership with local illegal liquor suppliers who are connected to some of the most dangerous criminals in the border city region and even Al Capone in Chicago.
It doesn't take long for deceit and greed to turn Moose, Scotty and Jackie's world into a dangerous and violent game of cat and mouse involving ruthless gangsters, determined government agents and unexpected saviours.
